Jacques Laurin begins his professional musical career as double bassist for Plume Latraverse on the albums Le Vieux Show Son Sale and Pommes de Route. Afterward, he alternately joins the cutting edge groups Brégent, Conventum and l’Orchestre Sympathique as a bass player, composer and arranger. ................................................In 1983, he sets up the music publishing house Les Éditions du Lycanthrope, and conceives the first volume of Les Cahiers de Jazz de Montréal, publication grouping, in the form of music sheets, some compositions of the best Montreal jazz musicians. This publishing house had for mission to publish, promote and broadcast Canadian jazz music. ................................................Since 1985, he acts as producer and sound engineer for recognized jazz artists such as : Karen Young and Michel Donato Duo, Jean Vanasse and Miroslav Vitous Duo, Jean Beaudet Quartet, Provost-Lachapelle-Brochu Trio , Normand Guilbeault Ensemble , Vanassextet, Matthieu Bélanger Quartet, Samuel Blais quartet, François Richard Triple Quartet,but also for authors composers interpreters such as : Pierre Létourneau, Bon Débarras, Sophie Lemaire, Catherine Major, etc. ................................................Since 1995, he completed a bachelor’s degree in jazz interpretation from Sherbrooke University, a master's degree in music, specialized in sound recording, from McGill University and he completes at present a diploma in specialized higher education (DESS) in management from École des Hautes Études Commerciales de Montréal (HEC). ................................................In 2002 he was awarded Best Live Recording prize from DOWNBEAT magazine, for Eduardo Pipman’s Quartet Live at Maison de la Culture Côte des Neiges. He is afterward invited by the Banff Centre for the Arts as associate sound engineer. In 2004 the CD Par-dessus Bord, which he produces and engineers for Catherine Major receives, in France, a "Prix coup de Coeur" from Académie Charles Cros. ................................................From 2001 till 2006, he was one of the OFF Festival de Jazz administrators and organizers, as well as president of Quebec Jazz Artists Grouping (RAJQ). He was also producer and organizer of Les Jeudis JAZZ in the Studio-Theater of the Place des Arts. He is regularly invited to sit as member of FACTOR juries.
